On 11 and 12 November 2026, REBELION partners will be in Stockholm for Battery Innovation Days 2026, one of Europe’s main meeting points for battery research and innovation. At the Circular Battery Cluster booth, visitors can explore how Horizon Europe projects are tackling the end of a battery’s first life, from repurposing to recycling and material recovery.

As electric mobility grows, so does the number of lithium-ion batteries reaching the end of their first life. Many of them could still serve in less demanding applications, but reuse and recycling at scale face technical and safety barriers. REBELION has been working on these barriers since June 2023.

At the booth, visitors can talk to the REBELION team about the solutions the project is developing to make used batteries easier to assess, dismantle, repurpose and recycle. These include rapid battery condition testing based on electronic noise analysis, an autonomous system for dismantling packs and modules, and a labelling approach that combines blockchain, digital battery passports and ecolabels. The project is also working on safer handling, with thermal and gas monitoring and a smart storage and transport container designed to reduce the risk of thermal runaway.

The Circular Battery Cluster brings together EU-funded projects that share the goal of a more circular battery value chain. On 11 November at 11:30, the cluster will take part in the session “Which Place for Mining, Refining, and Recycling in the Circle Life of Batteries?”.

Battery Innovation Days 2026 is organised by the Batteries European Partnership Association (BEPA) together with Battery 2030+ and the IPCEIs. The event covers the whole battery lifecycle, from research to real-world applications.
